Dear Parents/Carers
I hope this letter finds you and your families well. A Friday update for you, as always, with some key messages I would like to share with you.
It was lovely to see so many families at the Year 7 Progress Evening, with an impressive 90% of families in attendance; Year 7 families are setting the standard for all other year groups to follow. It seemed, from my conversations, that families enjoyed their first contact with our teachers. It was heartening too, to hear how well our Year 7s have settled into secondary school life. We acknowledge that booking appointments was tricky for some, and we appreciate your patience there. I hope you managed to meet with your child’s teachers regardless. Once we fully migrate to EduLink, this process will be much smoother, with appointments being able to be made via the app. We are also exploring a hybrid approach to Progress Evenings, with a mix of online and in-person appointments. More details to follow in due course.
Congratulations to 10L for winning interform basketball this week. Again another fantastically well attended interform with over forty students hitting the courts on Tuesday night. A special mention to 10C, 10O and 10L who all made it out of the group stages to the semi finals. Attention now turns to Year 7 and Year 9 basketball next week.
Year 11 students have completed more Exam Success workshops this week, just in time for their Spring Exams that began today. We wish them the very best of luck. Year 11 families would have received a message this week from Ms Riaz. Some timely advice offered to support every Year 11 student to gain the absolute most from their remaining 8 weeks before the start of the GCSE series.
This week is Children’s Mental Health Week, with mental wellbeing always being a priority at Kelmscott. We encourage students to speak openly about their feelings, take time to unwind, and seek support when needed. Do reach out, if you have any concerns or would welcome additional support here, such as from our exceptional school counsellor.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, we are hosting an empowering and inspiring event for our girls, featuring influential women from various industries who will share their career journeys and life lessons.
📅 Date: Friday, 7th March
⏰ Time: 9am - 11am
📍 Location: Kelmscott School, E17 8DN
If you would be interested in speaking at this event, or know someone else who might be suitable, we would be very grateful if you could complete the survey that may be found here.
Auditions for The Importance of Being Earnest have taken place, and we were thrilled with the response we received. Exciting times ahead. Students who would like to get involved, front of stage or back, should see Ms Lawrance.
Some fantastic career opportunities to signpost to our students now:
Roots continue to offer fantastic support for families, including:
A new group of parents, Friends of Kelmscott, is fundraising for additional school resources. They’d love your input—please complete the survey, which can be found here, to help shape their plans.
A reminder that energy drinks are banned in school. These drinks contain high levels of caffeine and sugar, which can lead to poor concentration, energy crashes, and even health risks such as heart palpitations and anxiety. Please ensure your child does not bring them into school.
A polite reminder that we kindly ask parents to avoid calling their children during school hours. Receiving a call can tempt students to check their phones, which should remain out of sight while on-site. If possible, please wait until after 3:15pm to contact them. Should you need to get an urgent message to your child during the school day, you can contact our reception who will ensure the message is passed on.
The issue with the MyED app, which affected a number of parents, has been resolved. Those impacted should now be able to view student details in the app. If any parents continue to experience difficulties, please reach out to the school so we can investigate and address the issue.
Starting next week, we will begin calling parents who have not yet downloaded and logged into our new school app, EduLink One, to provide support. We cannot fully launch the new app until the majority of parents/carers are logged in, and currently, over 400 parents have not yet done so. Please note that until we live launch the new app, which you will be given advance notice of, ALL school communications will be channelled via MyEd.
Congratulations to Samuel Burnside (8C) for topping the reward points chart last week with an impressive 48 points. Well done also to the top scorers in other year groups:
Year 7, Barnaby Lawson-Blackwell in 7T with 30 points.
Year 8, Samuel Burnside in 8C with 48 points.
Year 9, Linus Hopkins in 9E with 33 points.
Year 10, Thyron Sydney in 10M and Ayub Medjbour in 10E with 25 points.

Finally, our Ofsted report is due to be published online next week, it is a very positive report indeed with some fantastic soundbites. I plan to share the report with you, this time next week but you’re most welcome to check the Ofsted website for a sneak preview.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
