Dear Parents/Carers
I hope this letter finds you and your families well, as we finish for the Christmas holidays.
Somehow, in my haste to finish last week’s letter, I neglected to mention the final performance of School of Rock, which took place on Monday evening. Please accept my apologies for this oversight. The performance marked the culmination of over a year’s dedication from the cast and crew and was the first production of this scale during my tenure as Headteacher.
You may recall that we initially planned to stage the performances during the summer term last year, but due to unforeseen circumstances, this was postponed. In hindsight, this delay turned out to be a wonderful opportunity for many of our new Year 7 students to join the production. Seeing their enthusiastic involvement was truly heartening.
All the students involved should take immense pride not only in their fantastic performance but also in their commitment to such a long-term project. The hard work and effort from everyone involved paid off on the night, and it was evident how much they had grown, not just in their skills, but in the friendships they forged across year groups. It’s always inspiring to witness students shine in a different light, showcasing talents that may not always be visible in the classroom.
A special thanks goes to Mr. Hill for his relentless drive and dedication to this project over the past few months. Your hard work and passion have made this achievement possible, and it is greatly appreciated by the entire school community.
You can find the full cast and crew list here.
This week marked the culmination of the Smiling Boys Project, an initiative that has provided a group of our students with a valuable opportunity for personal growth and reflection. Throughout the process, the boys have developed their confidence, learned new skills, and gained a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships with others. We are very proud of their progress and the positive outcomes this project has achieved.
On Wednesday, we came together as a school community to enjoy our Christmas dinner, a much anticipated tradition that’s always a highlight of the festive season. As expected with such a popular event, there were big queues, which our relatively new chef hadn’t quite anticipated. Nonetheless, it was an impressive logistical feat to provide a festive meal for over a thousand people, and we hope students thoroughly enjoyed the festive cheer, complete with crackers, chocolates, and the joy of sharing this special occasion with their peers and staff. It was heart-warming to see everyone celebrating the season together.
This week saw two exciting basketball games;
Year 7/8 Boys Basketball Team - The boys faced Willowfield at home on Wednesday. They played well, creating numerous chances in the first and second quarters, but narrowly lost by one basket. The game ended 12-10 to Willowfield. A big congratulations to Matthew Zakharkov (7K) and Daniel Acee Estremadura (7L) for being awarded Players of the Match.
Year 9 Girls Basketball Team - On Tuesday night, the Year 9 girls hosted Lammas for their second game of the season. The girls put in a fantastic performance in all quarters but were unable to secure a win. Myah Farrugia shone bright, earning Player of the Match for her excellent offensive drives toward the basket.
We look forward to resuming the basketball season next term and kicking off the Waltham Forest football season again after the February break.
