Dear Parents/Carers
I hope this letter finds you and your families well, as we approach the final week of the school term.
This week, our Year 10 and Year 11 GCSE Latin and Classical Civilisation students had the wonderful opportunity to visit the British Museum, where they explored some of the incredible classical artefacts they have been studying. The day was focused on closely examining intricate sculptures and vase paintings, offering valuable insights into the lives of the Ancient Greeks and Romans and bringing classroom learning to life. Students were particularly inspired by the Parthenon sculptures and the jewellery exhibits, marveling at the opportunity to see their prescribed visual materials in person. It was fantastic to hear how engaged and enthusiastic our students were throughout the visit, making it a truly enriching and memorable experience.
On Tuesday, it was my pleasure to join twelve Year 7 students in decorating the school Christmas tree. As we worked together, the students shared their reflections on their first term at Kelmscott. They described their experiences as overwhelmingly positive, highlighting their learning journeys and the strong friendships they’ve built. Their enthusiasm, energy, and engaging stories made the activity a truly heartwarming moment. It’s so lovely to see how well our newest students have settled into the Kelmscott community, what a fantastic start to their journey with us.
Tuesday afternoon saw us welcome local senior citizens for a delightful afternoon tea, creating a truly special moment in the festive season. Our students took the lead in planning and hosting the event, and they made us all proud with their exceptional hospitality, kindness, and festive spirit. It was lovely to witness the connections formed and the joy this brought to our guests. The afternoon was a beautiful reminder of the power of community and the positive impact our students can have on others and visa versa. A big well done to everyone involved.
A group of seven students represented Kelmscott School at a SEND sports event held within the borough, competing against eight other schools for a chance to win medals. It was a tight competition, but we are proud to share that our students secured an impressive third place overall! The event, which took place at the Peter May Centre, featured a range of activities including agility, boccia, and skittles, among others. These opportunities are invaluable for fostering inclusivity and ensuring all students can enjoy the benefits of physical activity and teamwork. Our participants displayed exceptional behaviour, serving as a credit to our school. Well done to all involved for their hard work and outstanding sportsmanship
Our Year 11 boys faced Lammas on Wednesday in a competitive basketball match. The final score was 51-36 to Lammas, but Kelmscott showed excellent teamwork and determination throughout the game. Man of the Match was awarded jointly to Jake and Adyaan for their impressive rebounds and contributions to the team’s performance. Well done to the team, your hard work and sportsmanship were commendable. Keep pushing forward in the next game.
On the topic of representing our school, I’d like to remind all students of the importance of displaying good behaviour at local bus stops and on public transport. As members of our community, our students are ambassadors for Kelmscott, and it’s vital that we all play our part in maintaining the school’s strong reputation.
Looking ahead to next week, we’ll be holding a non-uniform day on Wednesday 18th December. Students are asked to bring a £2 donation for the privilege, and the proceeds will go toward school initiatives. This will also be our Christmas dinner day, with a festive menu including crackers, chocolates, and plenty of Christmas cheer. The cost for the meal will be £2.70.
The fundraising efforts for our Year 11 students continue next week with daily bake sales planned during lunch and after school in room L103. All proceeds will go towards creating a memorable Yearbook for the cohort. For those looking to indulge in some fabulous home-baked treats, please remember this is a cash-only event. Your support is greatly appreciated.
